DOB: N/A
Home Town: Glen Burnie, MD
Current Location: Washington, DC

Biography:

Adrienne has a background in track and field where she specialized in the 400 intermediate hurdles.  Her first multi-event experience involved competing in pentathlons and heptathlons, which she loved.  After college she remained competitive by entering road races and playing flag football until she found out her knee required a second surgery.  While recovering, doctors told her to think about cross training to reduce the amount of impact, so she decided to pursue a long time dream and entered her first sprint triathlon in Dewey Beach, DE.  After a few quick swim lessons and picking up her first road bike on ebay, she headed out to the race.  As she watched the waves crash down on the beach, she knew she had a lot to learn about the sport. Two hours later she crossed the finish line and felt on top of the world.

What’s my motivation:    One day I will be the best - for now, I must learn to swim.

Goals:  Travel the world one race at a time.

Biography:

I became interested in triathlons in 1997 when I watched the Hawaii Ironman on television for the first time. Immediately, I knew that I wanted to be a part of it as I remember thinking how amazing it must be for a person to have the strength, endurance and above all, the determination to finish such a long and challenging race. Regardless of how long it took an athlete to come across the finish line, I admired that persons will to complete the race. At that time, I was nearing the end of my college track and cross-country career as graduation was right around the corner, and coming from an athletic background that included basketball, baseball, boxing, and running, I felt compelled to want to continue training in something that would push my limits even further.

Since then, I have trained on and off, building my stamina and courage to tackle a triathlon on my own. Now, nearly ten years later, I finally decided to enter my first sprint tri, which was in Pennsylvania this summer. Even though it took me nearly two and a half-hours to finish, I can finally say “I am a triathlete!”

Biography:

Avid lover of baseball from as early as I can remember.  I played right up until I joined the Navy in 1984.  Playing organized sports led me to “have” to run for conditioning and sometimes punishment when the coach felt I needed a few laps.  After I joined the Navy I ran to keep in shape and for the mental break that a stressful job demands you take.  I ran my first 10K in 1988 and have been hooked on running ever since.  I have done 2 marathons (nothing to brag about) and numerous ½ marathons, 10 milers and 10K races.

In 2000 I purchased my first road bike after wondering about cycling.  Again I loved it from day one.  The next natural progression was to maybe do a triathlon.  I had done quite a bit of reading and of course followed the coverage of the Ironman Hawaii on television.

In 2006 I entered and completed my first sprint triathlon in Norfolk Virginia.  What a mess that was.  I finished dead last in my age group --- but alas I was finally a certified triathlete.  I went on to finish an Olympic distance race in my hometown of NYC and truly enjoyed that race.  Since the 2006 season I am totally hooked on Triathlons.  I will never be fast enough to finish very well, but I love the technical aspects of it.  I love the techno geek aspect of it and I love being around people that have a lust for being outside and want to take care of their bodies.  From here my immediate goal is to become comfortable in the water so I can finish a ½ Ironman sometime next year, maybe St Croix in May of 2008, hope to see you there.

Race Resume :

Jacksonville Marathon ( Jacksonville Florida); Virginia Beach Rock & Roll 1/2 marathon; Sand Diego Rock & Roll Marathon; Breezy Point Sprint Triathlon ( Norfolk, VA); NYC Triathlon (NYC); Army 10 miler; The Nations Triathlon (Duathlon); & Numerous other 10 mile & 10K races

Biography:

My interest in triathlons started when I was a junior in college.  I viewed the iron man and burst into tears when I heard about this guy who was participating in the ironman with his paralyzed son.  The story combined with the background music that CBS played was too much…Nonetheless it inspired me to really push myself physically.

I have actively participated in running and road/mountain biking since I was in high school.  I purchased my first road bike when I was a senior in high school, so the decision to participate in duathlons and marathons was a natural transition. My next to goal is to participate in triathlon in 2007

Biography:

I was introduced to the sport of triathlon watching the 1982 Ironman World Championship when Julie Moss, the race leader with only a few yards to go, collapsed near the finish line and struggled to complete the race.  This scene was played over and over again for years on TV.  Most people saw a person on the verge of dying.  I saw courage and determination and wondered how I would do if I ever race the mythical Hawaii Ironman.  Well, in 1995 I not only competed, I completed the Hawaii Ironman and all I can say is that it was well worth the journey…AWESOME!!!

My first triathlon was a sprint triathlon in Tampa, FL in 1987.  I couldn’t swim but I could float.  I was the last one out of the water.  On the bike, I had two flats.  On the run, I was passed by a 75 year old.  When I crossed the finish line, I felt like I won the race because I did something none of my friends could ever dream of doing plus I could say I’m a triathlete…priceless.

Me, I’m an average guy with a full-time job just trying to stay in shape.
