What brought you to triathlon?

A year ago I watched my wife train diligently for the Nike’s Woman’s Marathon and distinctly remember the energy in the air while watching the her prepare for the journey through the hills of San Fran. The huge sense of accomplishment that she and the other runners experienced when the completed the run was a feeling I wanted. I went out on a whim and completed my 1st Sprint late last year and thought it would be a one time experience. I ended up volunteering for Nations last year and became inspired by all the stories I witnessed. Physically disabled, weight challenged, age limited…. They all defeated the inner voice which defied them to push themselves to the limit. If they could do it, “why couldn’t I” has stayed with me since. I don’t plan on slowing down until I get the chance to visit the Kona; via lottery

What athletic achievement are you most proud of?

Since I’m relatively new to the sport all the small accomplishments have been fulfilling but I would say my proudest moment is seeing my daughter complete her first triathlon with DC Achieve. Witnessing all of the children from the inner city being introduced to a sport where we as minority Triathletes are spearheading the movement was a rewarding feeling.

Best Advice for someone thinking of doing their first triathlon:

Get embedded with other Tri Unify members and continue to learn/train with each other. There are extremely talented folks within the team who are more than willing to share information. It will save you time and money. Each One, Teach One

Goals for 2010?

Complete the season injury free and take the necessary winter break to rejuvenate for next year.
